Whangārei Police are seeking information following a serious stabbing that occurred on Friday night in Te Kamo.

At about 11.50pm, Police were called to a report of a fight between two people before one was stabbed at a Forest View Road address.

Officers located a young person with severe injuries and immediately provided first aid before paramedics transported him to hospital, where he underwent surgery.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Ryan Cooper, Northland CIB, says more than 200 people were present at the address prior to Police arrival, however most had dispersed when officers arrived.

“We know there was a fight and a young man has been seriously injured as a result.

“We also know that there were people there who know those involved and we would like to speak to them.

“I want to stress that this appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals, and we don’t believe there is a risk to the wider public.”

He says the investigation team have set up a dedicated portal for receiving photos and videos and would appreciate the public’s assistance with this.

“An anonymous online portal has been set up for anyone with footage of the incident itself, or the general area at the time.

“This incident could have had a tragic outcome and we need the community’s support to assist us in identifying those involved.”

Anyone with footage, including from cell phones of the incident can upload it anonymously here: https://forest.nc3.govt.nz/
