Man to appear in Court after public’s dangerous driving reports lead to large find

A man is due to appear in Rotorua District Court after members of the public have dobbed in alleged dangerous driving behaviours which later revealed alleged drug-related offending. 

About 6.35pm, Police received several 111 calls about a vehicle allegedly driving in a dangerous manner by crossing the centreline and fluctuating speeds. 

In one instance, the vehicle has allegedly narrowly missed a collision with another vehicle.

After receiving reports Police located the vehicle travelling on State Highway 5, and signalled the vehicle to stop.

While speaking with the driver, Police have seen a drug utensil in the vehicle and have taken the man into custody.

The vehicle was seized, and following further enquiries Police located over $1,000 cash, phones, around 130 grams of methamphetamine. 

Police would like to thank the members of the public who reported this alleged dangerous driving behaviour, and encourage the public to report any dangerous driving they see on our roads. 

The 30-year-old man has been remanded on bail and is due to appear in Rotorua District Court on 9 July, charged with precision of utensils.

Further charges are being considered.
