Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash on Parnassus Road (SH1) near McPhersons Stream Bridge, Spotswood, Hurunui District.
Police were called about 8.33am.
Initial indications are there have been serious injuries.
The road will be closed, with diversions in place.
Motorists should avoid the area.
