Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews are continuing to respond to the fire in a plantation north of Waipara in North Canterbury.
The fire is currently 105 hectares and is contained within the forest boundary but not under control.
Incident Commander Des Irving is urging people that have lit outdoor fires in the past few weeks to remain vigilant.
“Please take extra care to monitor your burn piles and take action as needed. We often find old, extinguished burn piles reigniting during dry and windy weather conditions.
“We urge people not to burn in windy weather, check the weather conditions prior to burning and contact Fire and Emergency for advice.”
Crews will remain on site over the weekend.
