Five nights of night closures begin on State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill, this Sunday (1 September).

State Highway 2 Remutaka will be closed Sunday to Thursday nights, between 9 pm and 4 am.

Road crews will replace road signs, clean up graffiti, remove litter, clear slips, rockfalls, and drains, and fix safety barriers.

While full closures are disruptive for drivers, it is the most effective way to complete the work.

Road crews can work faster than they would if the work was done under stop/go. Night closures cause less overall disruption, as traffic volumes on the route are lower than during the day. Overall, they allow repairs to be completed more quickly.

Escorted trips are available on closure nights, and it is essential these are booked in advance.

Plan ahead and make sure you’re on the list if you need to travel over the hill. Having a booked slot means you will be able to complete your journey.

With night closures also planned for resurfacing work on State Highway 2 in the Hutt Valley from 1 to 8 September, travel delays can be expected when travelling between Wellington and the Remutaka Hill.
