Road users are experiencing significant delays on State Highway 29 (SH29) by Redwood Lane due to stop/go traffic management, which is required for vital work on underground power lines for the Tauriko Enabling Works project.

The stop/go traffic management will be removed by 4pm today.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) planned the work to take place outside of peak hour traffic to minimise impact, however this network is particularly sensitive and delays are longer than anticipated.

For safety reasons, this type of work with electricity can’t be stopped and must be completed, however our contractor is monitoring queue lengths at both ends of the works and providing regular feedback.

Traffic is encouraged to keep moving at a safe pace through the site and to close the gap between the vehicle in front to improve traffic flow.

NZTA is examining whether any changes can be made for the remaining day of work (Monday 26 August) to ensure we can keep traffic moving and reduce delays.

NZTA apologies for the delays and thanks drivers, local residents and businesses for their patience.
