Wairarapa drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, with two upcoming night closures scheduled for State Highway 2 between Masterton and Carterton.
Roxanne Hilliard, Wellington Transport Alliance manager, says urgent maintenance will be done between 9 pm and 4 am on Sunday and Monday nights (14 and 15 July).
“Road crews will repair central median barriers, fix priority potholes, and replace damaged road signs.”
Ms Hilliard says with the median barriers having been hit 11 times in the last three months, repairing them is a priority.
“They are a crucial safety measure for preventing head-on collisions. Research shows they reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in crashes by 75 percent. Eleven strikes are eleven potential head-on crashes prevented.”

“To ensure we can complete our maintenance work as quickly as possible while keeping our road workers safe we need to close the highway in both directions”. Ms Hilliard says.
