The long Matariki weekend is upon us and the state highway network around Tairāwhiti and Hawke’s Bay is likely to be busier.
As at 7.45am:
- SH2 north of Gisborne is OPEN
- SH35 is OPEN
- SH2 between Gisborne and Napier is OPEN. Yesterday afternoon’s slip partially blocking one lane has been cleared
- SH38 between Frasertown and Lake Waikaremoana remains CLOSED, but one lane is open to residents and Emergency Services only. Traffic management will be in place
- SH5 Napier – Taupō is OPEN
- SH51 is OPEN
- SH50 is OPEN
While much of the state highway network is open following this week’s heavy rainfall and strong winds, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is strongly advising all road users to take their time on the roads and drive to the conditions.
