As heavy and persistent rain continues to fall in Gisborne, the Gladstone Road Bridge in the city will be closed from 11.30.

During the closure, crews will be clearing debris build up from around the bridge piers, as a proactive measure to prevent flooding on the bridge.

The bridge will remain closed until that debris is cleared.

NZTA’s Journey Planner will have updated information when the bridge is reopened and an update traffic bulletin will be released.

With a number of state highway closures, slips and surface flooding on the state highway network, around the region, NZTA is strongly urging people to avoid all unnecessary travel and take extreme care if they are driving.
