Auckland Council Libraries is updating its hold pick-up process to enhance privacy of customers.
From 28 May, when you visit a library to collect an item you’ve requested, it will not be shelved alphabetically with your name on a paper slip. Instead, your requested library items will be on numbered shelves in the holds pick-up area at your chosen library.
The new holds pick-up system is anonymised, paperless, and designed to protect your privacy.
When your item is ready to be picked up, you’ll receive an email with the details you need to find your hold, including the library item name, pick-up location, the number of the shelf your hold is on and the pick-up date.
The information will also be available in the account section of the Auckland Council Libraries app, available on the Apple App Store or on Google Play.
Changing to this system will prioritise the privacy of our customers and help us to play our part to reduce paper waste and our environmental impact. This innovative technology will also automate some of the manual tasks involved in moving and managing our collections around the library.
So the next time you request an item, keep an eye out for the number on your email for the pick-up location at your chosen library. Then, use your library card barcode on the Auckland Council Libraries app or bring your library card as usual and remember to check out your requested items at the self-check machine or at the desk.
If you need help, remember to ask your friendly local libraries team.
