The final stage of construction for the roundabout at the State Highway 6/Bells and St Leonards Road intersection is about to begin.

Work on the project has been underway since January. During the first three stages, contractors built new drains, installed new streetlights and utilities, and laid around 4,500m2 of pavement and road surfacing.

That’s as well as building the new roundabout, which will make it much easier and safer for drivers to get through the intersection.

The final stage is due to start on Friday, 10 May. Planned work includes landscaping, road surfacing, line marking and signage.

State Highway 6 will be open in both directions with a temporary speed limit of 30 km/h during this stage.

The intersection of State Highway 6 and St Leonards Road will be CLOSED. Residents will need to continue to use a detour.

People living on St Leonards Road who want to travel to Blenheim will need to go up Old Renwick Road and follow the detour to Colemans Road.

Those heading to Renwick/Nelson must go via Jacksons Road.

Cyclists will be able to travel with care through the site.

If the weather remains favourable, the roundabout should be finished ahead of schedule on Friday, 17 May.

Contractors will then return in December to complete a final road surface to the intersection area. This has to be done during warm, dry summer conditions. Updates on plans for this work will be provided closer to the time.

We thank everyone for their ongoing patience as contractors work hard to get this project completed.
