Windy Wellington is living up to its name, meaning drivers should take extra care on the roads.
The Metservice has issued a Strong Wind Watch for Wellington and Wairarapa from 10 pm tonight (Monday, 25 March) until 10 am tomorrow (Tuesday, 26 March).
Northwest winds are forecast to approach severe gale at times.
Truck and van drivers, towing vehicles, and motorcyclists must be aware of the conditions and plan their travel accordingly.
Caution will be needed on exposed routes, such as State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill and the Wainui Saddle on State Highway 1 Transmission Gully.
The bad weather will coincide with peak morning traffic. Commuters are urged to drive according to the conditions and be prepared for hazards like wind-blown debris and tree falls.
Drivers should also check road and weather conditions before they travel.
