Northbound lane closures begin next week as major resurfacing and maintenance works continue on the Wellington Urban Motorway.
No full closure on Wednesday, 21 February
Changes have been made to previously announced schedules, and there will no longer be a full closure on the night of Wednesday, 21 February. This is to accommodate the Black Caps vs Australia cricket match at Sky Stadium and will ensure fans can get to and from the game as easily as possible.
The Terrace Tunnel, Clifton Terrace and Tinakori Road on-ramps will be open – but the May Street on-ramp will be closed.
There will be lane closures between the May Street on-ramp and Hobson Bridge to allow work crews to perform maintenance on the motorway shoulder and slow lane.
Changes to closure hours
The duration of the night-time closures has been extended from 4 am to 4:30 am. This is not expected to significantly affect traffic flows on the detour routes.
Northbound closure – Sunday, 18 February to Thursday, 29, February
The Wellington Urban Motorway will be closed in parts to northbound traffic from 9 pm to 4:30 am each night, excluding Wednesday (see details above), Friday, and Saturday. Southbound traffic can travel as normal.
The main detour route is in the below map.
The northbound closure will mean that Clifton Terrace, Tinakori Road and May Street on-ramps will close on some nights.
This affects how people within the city can enter the motorway. Please follow the detour signs in place and allow extra time to travel when these on-ramps are closed.
