Drivers traveling in the Tasman region will need to take extra care on the roads with bad weather forecast for the region.

The Metservice has issued a heavy rain watch for Tasman, about and west of Motueka. Periods of heavy rain are forecast.

The weather will affect State Highway 60 in Tākaka and Golden Bay, as well as State Highway 6 around Buller and Murchison.

Road users should drive to the conditions and be prepared for localised flooding and slips.

Watch your following distances, avoid heavy braking on wet roads, and use your headlights during the day if visibility is poor.

Drivers should check weather and road conditions before they travel as bad weather can see roads closed at short notice.
