Drivers heading north on State Highway 2 between Carterton and Masterton can expect to see a local road detour tonight.

Essential resurfacing work is being carried out on the northbound lane between Masterton and Carterton from 5pm tonight (Wednesday, 20 December). This is in the Masterton to Carterton Safety Improvements Project area.

These are important works and must be done before the busy holiday period when more traffic is expected on this route.

The northbound lane will be closed to traffic while this work is underway. However, the southbound lane will remain open to all traffic.

Local road detours are available – Northbound traffic turn left onto Chester Road, right onto Norfolk Road and left back onto State Highway 2. This detour is suitable for heavy vehicles.

Drivers are urged to factor this into their travel plans and allow extra travel time.

Updates on the highway’s status can be found on our website.
