Remedial works on State Highway 1 at Rangiriri are coming to an end but there are still two weeks of repairs before all four lanes are open to traffic.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises work in the southbound lanes is finishing this week but traffic will remain on single lanes in each direction while smaller repairs are made and flexible safety barriers are back in place.
One of those tasks is scheduled for Sunday night, 3 December, and will require the southbound Te Kauwhata off-ramp to be closed. As the Rangiriri off-ramp remains closed, access to Te Kauwhata, Rangiriri and Glen Murray is via the local roads from Hampton Downs or drive south to Ōhinewai and return to Rangiriri. Work hours are 8pm-6am. If there is rain, the job will be done the following night.
Further south a small night-time detour will be required taking traffic up the Rangiriri off-ramp and back to SH1 on the Rangiriri on-ramp. The dates for this are Monday and Tuesday next week, 8pm-6am.
The 4.8km Rangiriri section of the expressway will reopen on all four lanes in mid-December with a temporary speed limit of 70km/h until final sealing in autumn.
The NZ Transport Agency apologises for the disruption this work is causing and thanks people for their patience.
