Road users throughout Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti are being urged to plan ahead and take care with heavy rain on the way.

Metservice is forecasting the heaviest rainfall to hit the regions on Monday and Tuesday.

Waka Kotahi is reminding people planning their journey to factor in potential delays; drive to the conditions and take care while driving.

Contractors will be closely monitoring the network during the expected rainfall period.

Waka Kotahi is also asking people to expect the potential for short-notice road closures if the heavy rainfall reaches a point where a road closure is needed for the safety of all road users.

Closing a road is always carefully considered, and keeping people and workers safe is the priority. We want to thank road users and communities for their support if we do need to close any part of the network.

As conditions change, the best chance to stay up to date with the roading conditions, and plan a journey, is by visiting our interactive Journey Planner.
