A section of the southbound lane on State Highway 3 near Lake Alice and Dudding Lake will be closed during the day from next week for resurfacing and drainage works.

A signposted detour will be in place for southbound traffic. Northbound traffic will remain on the state highway, under a temporary speed restriction.

The works will begin next Tuesday 24 October and are expected to take seven weeks.

The southbound lane will be closed from 6am to 6pm Monday to Friday and some Saturdays.

Southbound traffic will be detoured down Makirikiri Road, onto Pukepapa Road and then back onto State Highway 3.

Waka Kotahi advises road users heading south that the detour is likely to add up to an extra five minutes to people’s journey.

Drainage remains critical to the resilience of all roads and we want to thank people for taking the detour while we focus on these improvements.

We will be back to site in approximately 12 months to add the second coat of seal.

Thank you for your patience and understanding of these works.
