It’s more important than ever that residents speak up and let Howick Local Board know if the three-year plan, just released for consultation, is right for their community.

The board has prepared a draft plan that will guide local board decision-making in Howick over the next three years on things like parks and playgrounds, community funding and group support, as well as events and programmes.

Now the board wants to hear from residents and is asking them to fill out the simple online form at akhaveyoursay.govt.nz/localboardplans by 14 August.

Chair Damian Light is proud to present the draft Local Board Plan for public feedback.

“Getting it ready for community feedback has been one of our top priorities and members have spent a great deal of time creating a plan that is both aspirational and practical. The draft is the result of countless conversations at public engagement events earlier this year,” he says.

“All those ideas, captured in post-it notes, feedback forms and in conversations, have been reviewed, considered, and distilled into this plan. We’ve taken your feedback, together with strategic context and expert advice, to produce a draft for local to review.”

“Residents will recognise things from previous plans, as we continue to build on the success of those projects. There are also initiatives that respond to new challenges and opportunities.”

With populations still growing, the board has called for a strategic long-term approach to asset management that considers maximising the benefits of existing assets to unlock new opportunities and address inequity.

The plan includes five key areas – people, community, environment, places, and transport. Key objectives and the initiatives the board wants delivered are listed under each topic.

Light says the board Recognises reduced annual budgets and the challenge to do more with less by using creative approaches, more partnerships and local procurement “We believe we’ve captured what the public has asked for, but please tell us if we’re right, or if we’ve missed or misunderstood anything.”

Have your say

Feedback must be received by 4pm on Monday 14 August.
