During July, there will be several changes and overnight closures around SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange and the Bayfair roundabout, as construction continues in the area as part of the Bay Link project.
The first overnight closure coming up is to place asphalt on SH2/Tauranga Eastern Link (TEL) northbound between Sandhurst interchange and SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange. This work is in the lead up to complete the ramp approaching the interchange from Pāpāmoa.
The work is currently scheduled to take place as follows:
- from Sunday 2 July to Thursday 6 July (from approximately 7pm to 6am each night)
- Sunday 9 July and Monday 10 July (from approximately 7pm to 6am each night).
Changes for road users
During these hours, SH2/TEL northbound will be fully closed between Sandhurst interchange and SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange.
For road users travelling from Pāpāmoa/TEL towards Bayfair roundabout or the Bayfair flyover, a signposted detour via Mangatawa Link Road, Truman Lane, SH29A roundabout and SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange will apply during these hours. This is the same detour that currently applies for road users travelling from Pāpāmoa/TEL to SH29A.
In addition, Truman Lane eastbound, between SH29A roundabout and Bay of Plenty House Removers, will also close overnight to allow for the removal of the central work zone. This work is currently scheduled on Tuesday 4 July (from approximately 9pm to 6am).
During these hours, a signposted detour via SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange, Tauranga Eastern Link, Sandhurst interchange and Mangatawa Link Road will apply for road users travelling from SH29A to Truman Lane.
All work is weather-dependent. If it is delayed because of weather or other unforeseen issues, it will be carried out on the next suitable night/s.
While this work is underway, people are advised to allow extra time, drive with caution through the project site, reduce speed and follow the directions provided on traffic management signage.
Later in July there will be further night closures at the Bayfair roundabout to allow traffic switches at ground level on Maunganui Road northbound between Exeter Street and Concord Avenue. Closures of Maunganui Road northbound will be required during these work activities and further information will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Waka Kotahi thanks drivers, local residents and businesses for their patience as we continue to progress the Bay Link project.
