State Highway 1 crash to cause delays for Wellington commuters

Update 4.35 pm: The crash scene has been cleared and the northbound lanes of State Highway 1 have been reopened. However, the crash has caused significant congestion for northbound drivers. Travel delays can be expected until queued traffic clears.


Update 4:25pm:

Commuters heading out of the Wellington CBD can expect delays this evening following a crash on State Highway 1 near Johnsonville.

The crash was reported around 4 pm.

State Highway 1 is now closed to northbound traffic between the Johnsonville off-ramp and the Johnsonville on-ramp. There are significant traffic queues northbound through Ngauranga Gorge.

Drivers should detour via Johnsonville Road and expect northbound delays.

The highway remains open to southbound traffic.
