Safety improvements for State Highway 2, Upper Hutt, are about to step up a gear with the installation of median barriers beginning between Whakatiki Street and Fergusson Drive this Sunday.

The median barriers are an extension of those located south of the Whakatiki Street intersection.

Central median barriers significantly reduce the risk of death and serious injury from head-on crashes. The new barrier will help make this stretch of road safer for the thousands of drivers who use it daily.

The installation will start at Whakatiki Street and progress towards Fergusson Drive over several weeks, weather permitting.

Contractors will work Sunday to Thursday nights between 7 pm and 5.30 am. These works have been timed to minimise disruption for road users as much as possible.

Drivers can expect some delays when travelling through the works area. Please be prepared for temporary traffic management and speed restrictions.

Further information about these works can be found on the Waka Kotahi website

Waka Kotahi wants to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while these works are carried out.
