State Highway 25 at the Opoutere will re-open to all traffic – including trucks and trailers – from 2pm today, 22 June.
Repair works to fix the under-slip have been completed ahead of schedule, however the site remains under stop/go traffic management and road users are asked to take care as the surface is not yet fully sealed. Pavement works cannot be completed until the weather improves.
The road has been compromised here since early March, when an under-slip closed the highway following heavy rain. Contractors cut into the cliff face to create a passable track for light vehicles past the slip before works got underway on permanent repairs.
