Road users are advised to exercise caution and allow extra time if they’re travelling through the Karangahake Gorge. Stop/Go traffic management is ongoing on SH2 between Paeroa and Waihī as contractors work to clear a slip and fallen trees.

The Gorge will need to fully close for up to an hour from 9.30am tomorrow morning Thursday 11 May, to remove a large tree that is posing a risk to the highway.

Stop/Go traffic management will resume once the 30 metre tall tree has been safely brought down by arborists.

Motorists are encouraged to visit the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz(external link)).
