Marlborough, Nelson, and Tasman drivers can expect more wet weather driving conditions over the next couple of days.

The Metservice has heavy rain watches in place for Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman, and Golden Bay for Tuesday and is warning the regions can expect periods of heavy rainfall. State Highway 6. State Highway 63, State Highway 62, and State Highway 60 are all in the affected areas.

With the ground already saturated from heavy rain over the weekend, more bad weather means there is a risk of further slips, rockfalls, and flooding across the state highway network. As was seen over the weekend, this can see roads closed at short notice.

Waka Kotahi urges drivers to be ready for the bad weather and take extra care on the road. This means using your headlights when visibility is poor, watching your speed and following distances, and driving to the conditions.

If there are road closures, it is essential drivers obey them. They are there to keep the public safe. Ignoring road closures can put your life at risk and those of emergency services who may need to rescue you. It also invalidates your vehicle insurance. Ignoring road closures is not worth the risk.
