Works on the Waikato Expressway will require night-time detours near Ngāruawāhia and Rangiriri in the next fortnight.

First up is a three-night detour for south-bound traffic on the Ngāruawāhia section between Taupiri and Horotiu interchanges on the nights of April 25, 26 and 27.

Closure times are 7pm-5am and the detour via the old highway route through Ngāruawāhia will be clearly signposted. There will be a later start of 9pm on 25 April for Anzac Day travellers.

The detour is required as works continue on remedial and safety improvements to get this section of expressway to 110km/h standard.

Resurfacing works on the Rangiriri section will see traffic moved off the highway on a short detour on April 30 (south-bound) and May 1 (north-bound).

The closure times are 8pm-5am with traffic to be detoured between the Te Kauwhata and Rangiriri interchanges via Te Wharepu Road.
