Manukau has long punched above its weight, contributing 14 per cent of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland’s gross domestic product (GDP). This is due in large part to having the industrial areas of Wiri and Airport Oaks nearby and being home to many of the country’s largest manufacturing and logistics operations.

Its enviable location has also seen Manukau take its rightful place as the southern gateway of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland, with fantastic transport connections in place already, and more on the way. With easy to access to the motorway network (both State Highway 1 and State Highway 20) and five sets of on and off ramps, Manukau has direct connections to the city centre, Auckland International Airport, Ports of Auckland, the North Shore, Hamilton, Tauranga and beyond.

Congestion-busting public transport options have also improved significantly in recent years. Direct bus services from the recently upgraded Puhinui Station provide seamless connections to the airport every 10 minutes from 4.30am to 12.40am, seven days a week. From Puhinui Station, you can catch a train to anywhere along the Southern Line and Eastern Line, getting you to Central, East and South Auckland. As City Rail Link comes online, capacity across the rail network will double, providing room for growth. Having the award-winning Manukau bus and rail interchanges located centrally also provides convenient, low-carbon, congestion-free journey options for commuters and travellers.

In addition to this, Auckland Transport has an extensive cycleway investment programme planned, giving people more options to travel safely as more people come to live, work and play in the area.

Through this sustained central and local government investment, Manukau has emerged as a powerhouse set to capitalise on future growth. Already an education, training and highly desirable commercial hub, the talent pool around the area will continue to grow, becoming more skilled and attentive to high quality office space and having residential options nearby.

To ensure all this investment comes together to deliver a thriving and sustainable community for those who already call Manukau home and those who will in future, Eke Panuku Development Auckland is leading Auckland Council’s efforts to unlock the full potential that Manukau offers.

Through more high-quality housing, a restored and protected natural environment and genuine partnerships that sit at the heart of it all, Manukau has a bright future.

Residential growth is expected to continue in the coming decades. Eke Panuku has helped deliver award winning housing developments like Kōtuitui Place, with the NZ Housing Foundation building more homes right next door, all within 500m of the centre of Manukau, connected via the new Barrowcliffe Bridge. Thousands more homes are also planned by private developers, iwi, community housing providers and Kāinga Ora in the coming years.

On the environment front, the regeneration of the Puhinui Stream is one of the key priorities for ensuring Manukau’s ongoing transformation is sustainable. A multi-agency project, the work includes the creation of new wetlands, stormwater infrastructure, cycleways and connecting paths, stream naturalisation and significant native planting to restore the stream’s environment and communities to health. The value of good stormwater infrastructure investment has certainly been proven over the last couple of months.

Don’t miss out – make your move to Manukau.
