Road users around Midhirst, in Taranaki are being urged to plan ahead for the closure of a section of SH3 for resurfacing work.
SH3 between Denbigh and York Roads, north of Stratford, will be closed overnight on Wednesday (22 March).
Rehabilitation work was completed last week on either side of the rail overbridge – work that did not require a Kiwirail permit.
The contractor has now received the Kiwirail permit which will allow them to proceed with completing the remaining rail overbridge section of the rehabilitation work.

Stop/go traffic management – delays expected |

Road closed to both lanes of traffic |
People should take State Highway 45 or delay travel if possible, during these times. Alternative local road routes are available but may not be suitable for all vehicles. People are urged to plan their journey before travelling.
A full road closure is required to ensure the safety of both road users and our crews. The road at this location is curved and narrow, and crews will be working on both sides of the road at the same time, so Stop/Go traffic management is not possible.
Waka Kotahi’s System Manager for Manawatū/Taranaki, Rob Service has thanked road users for their continued patience and cooperation.
“We know these works will cause some disruption so we appreciate people’s understanding, while these important works are continued to improve the safety and reliability of the highway are completed.”
This work is weather dependant and work will be postponed to the next available date, in the event of wet weather.
