Waka Kotahi contractors continue to work hard to reopen state highways and reconnect communities across the Tairāwhiti region, despite the heavy rainfall earlier this week.
State Highway 2 between Gisborne and Matawai is open, but is down to one lane in several areas. A convoy arrangement remains in place through some of the active sites and people should expect delays in some places.
The location of the previous slip near Otoko remains active and is continuing to pose a challenge. Contractors are regularly monitoring this area. There were issues overnight that resulted in vehicles being stuck behind slips and trees.
Our crews are also experiencing ongoing issues with fallen trees and slips.
State Highway 2 between Gisborne and Wairoa reopened last night.
State Highway 35 between Tikitiki and Te Puia Springs has also reopened, with people asked to take care and remain alert for unreported hazards following the heavy rain earlier this week.
