It’s time for Aucklanders to share their thoughts on the choices Auckland Council has proposed in its budget for the coming year.
Public consultation for the council’s Annual Budget 2023/2024 has opened and, until 11pm Tuesday 28 March, Aucklanders are invited to have their say on a proposed mix of options to close a $295 million budget shortfall.
Auckland Council Group Chief Financial Officer, Peter Gudsell encourages all Aucklanders to have their say before final decisions are made by councillors.
“There are some tough choices ahead and it is important the council hears from Aucklanders on the proposals that have been put forward
“The proposed budget outlines where the council plans to raise its revenue and what it will spend its money on – including plans to reduce our operating costs by an additional $125 million across Auckland Council and Council Controlled Organisations. These are important decisions we’re making on behalf of Aucklanders so it’s crucial we hear from you.
“There are a range of ways Aucklanders can have their say, whether it’s submitting a form online or attending an event.
“For those who value in-person conversations, there are many events across the region over the next four weeks, at both a regional and local level.
“Those who prefer online events can register to join a Q&A session, aimed to help Aucklanders understand the proposed budget.”
Mr Gudsell also acknowledges many Aucklanders are still feeling the impacts of the recent storm events.
“The effects of the weather events are still being felt across the region. Aucklanders who are still experiencing internet, power or phone issues can access all of the budget documents and feedback forms at their local library, service centre or at a Have Your Say event.
“For those who aren’t able to access the information online or visit a centre in person, please give us a call on 09 301 0101.
“We want to hear from as many Aucklanders as we can and are committed to making this as easy as possible.”
