State Highway 25 between the townships of Kuaotunu and Whitianga has now reopened, after multiple slips along the stretch of road following Friday’s heavy rain.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s Regional Manager of Maintenance and Operations Rob Campbell says crews have been working tirelessly to clear slips over the weekend.
“The road was closed to remove a large amount of slip material and to protect our crews while they removed rocks and trees from the slopes above and to prevent these from falling on the road in the future,” he says.
“While the road was closed to other vehicles, emergency services were allowed to pass through this section of the road during this time.”
“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we worked to reconnect the communities during this time,” says Mr Campbell.
“We know how frustrating closures can be, but our number one priority is safety – for road users and our contractors.”
