State Highway 3 (SH3) is currently closed between Conway and Maata Roads while crews remove trees which are at risk of falling on the road.
The strong winds associated with Cyclone Gabrielle have made the poplar trees unstable so they are being removed as soon as possible to reduce the risk to motorists.
While non-essential travel is discouraged, a detour is in place via Maata Street, Castle Street, and Conway Roads for those needing to travel the route.
People are urged to take extra care and abide by the temporary traffic management in place.
The detour is expected to remain in place for the rest of the day while the work is completed.
