Women have told us they want to attend breast screening services closer to home and in places where they feel comfortable.

The IS Architecture, Data and Digital team in Te Manawa Taki has recently supported the re-location and re-use of a Waikato hospital mammography unit working with Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki. Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki is a rural iwi-based, not-for profit, incorporated society providing health and wellness services across the Hauraki rohe to make screening for cancer easier for local women in the Thames–Coromandel-Hauraki rohe.

In the first four weeks in its new service location over 400 women had mammograms.   The IS team made sure that images and worklists from this location are securely sent to the central system avoiding the use of print outs, USB sticks and other manual processes.

Women no longer have to wait for the rural screening bus to arrive or plan travel to Hamilton, removing very real transport, time and privacy barriers.  A Pito Hauora hub is being developed around the mammography unit offering a range of services for local people in the surrounding towns.

This is the first mammography service in New Zealand to be incorporated into a Māori health provider.  Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki is the only iwi health provider within Pare Hauraki and the largest provider of holistic whānau-centred services within the rohe, Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki delivers hauora services in a way that is uniquely Māori yet inclusive of all peoples who choose to engage with their services.

Ka pai and excellent work team.
