Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising caution on the Saddle Road and Pahiatua Track ahead of forecast heavy rain and strong winds.
MetService is currently forecasting heavy rain to hit both roads between 9pm today and midday tomorrow, and strong winds from 6pm today.
“We’re urging road users to delay unnecessary travel if they can and to be alert to these high winds, possible flooding and short-notice state highway closures,” says Manawatū-Whanganui System Manager Rob Service.
“We don’t take road closures lightly, and any decisions would be made with the safety of all road users top of mind.
“Our priority is always the safety of all road users and our contractors.
“If you do need to use the roads, please drive to the conditions and be especially mindful of the conditions if you’re in a high-sided vehicle.
“Please also make sure you’re checking for the very latest weather conditions with MetService, and the latest road closures via the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner.”
