Emergency closure – Gladstone Road Bridge

The bridge closure is now delayed until tomorrow to allow traffic, including emergency services, unimpeded passage through town in the wake of ex Cyclone Hale.

The bridge will now close from 7pm tomorrow night (Thursday 12 January) until 6am Friday and again overnight Friday 13 January. The closure is required to clear debris beneath the bridge following ex Cyclone Hale.

Note: This timing differs from our earlier advisory below.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that Gladstone Road Bridge will be closed to traffic from early afternoon until 6pm today (Wednesday 11 January) and from 7am to 6pm tomorrow.

The closure is required under urgency to clear debris from the bridge abutments following ex Cyclone Hale, as advised by engineers.
