State Highway 1 between Ōtaki and Levin has partially reopened following a crash involving a car and a powerpole north of Ōtaki earlier today.

The collision happened just after midday. The highway was fully closed for over two and a half hours with a local detour in place while emergency services and contractors attended the scene.

The northbound lane has now reopened, but the southbound lane remains closed. Traffic heading to Wellington will have to detour via South Manakau Road and Waitohu Valley Road.

Road users can expect to see delays and traffic congestion until both lanes of the highway are reopened later today.
