People travelling on State Highway 1 north of Ōtaki should expect delays tonight (18 November) as emergency services attend a serious road crash.

9.58pm update: 

State Highway 1 north of Ōtaki has reopened following a serious road crash earlier this evening (18 November).

The highway was closed for almost three hours after a multi-vehicle accident occurred around seven PM between Manakau and Otaki, near the Forest Lakes Road intersection.

The road reopened shortly before 10pm and is now open to all traffic.

Waka Kotahi wants to thank road users for their patience and cooperation while emergency services and contractors attended this incident.

The multi-vehicle accident occurred around seven PM between Manakau and Otaki, near the Forest Lakes Road intersection.

State Highway 1 is closed south of the intersection with Forest Lakes Road.

Road users should avoid the area, use an alternative route or delay their journey.

Travel delays can be expected while emergency services attend this incident.
