Scammers want what’s yours. Learn how to protect your money.
Scammers are taking more from Kiwi’s bank accounts than ever before. New Zealand banks report customers lost a combined total of $183.5 million to scams this year – an increase of 40% on last year.
The numbers show that scammers are smarter and more active than ever before, and we are all falling for their evil ways. This week is Fraud Awareness Week and we’re encouraging Kiwis to “be the hero of their own scam story” by putting protections in place to make it harder for scammers to gain access to your money.
We all have a scam story. As we spend more time online, it’s easy to fall into a scam as it becomes harder and harder to tell what’s real and what’s fake.
If you are approached for money or personal information it’s important to:
Pause – take some time to think, don’t be rushed into action.
Review – checking contact details and facts.
Reflect – talking to people you trust.
You can be the hero of your own scam story by putting protections in place.
