Regular users of State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill need to be aware the route will be closed for essential maintenance for three nights beginning this Sunday.
The highway will be closed from Sunday, 6 November, to Tuesday, 8 November, from 9 pm to 4 am.
The maintenance closure is shorter than originally planned because of work completed during the previous closures. Three nights are needed, not the five nights previously publicised in previous announcements.
These night closures significantly reduce the number of daytime disruptions for road users. Road crews can complete a large amount of work safely over a small number of closures because multiple crews can work across the hill at the same time without disrupting traffic.
Scheduled crossings:
- We can only offer crossings of the Remutaka Hill during the maintenance closures if a traveller has special circumstances and has booked for one of the four time slots available.
- Hutt to Featherston 10.30 pm
- Featherston to Hutt 11.30 pm
- Hutt to Featherston 12.30 am
- Featherston to Hutt 1.30 am
- The amount of work taking place makes unplanned crossings unsafe to manage – for workers and road users. Any travellers with special circumstances should contact customer@wta.nzta.govt.nz
- We regret that people turning up without a booking will be turned away.
- We will remain in contact with Emergency Services to ensure we can provide safe passage of ‘flashing light’ vehicles.
- More information about the closures can be found at www.nzta.govt.nz/remutaka
We understand the closure may inconvenience regular users of the route, and want thank road users for their patience and understanding as contractors carry out this essential work.
Regular users of this route are encouraged to stay up to date on upcoming closures. While these dates are fixed, bad weather may cause work to be cancelled.
