Residents and regular users of State Highway 6 through Murchison should be aware of planned resurfacing work starting next week.

From Tuesday, 25 October, to Friday 11 November, Waka Kotahi contractors will resurface State Highway 6 Waller Street between the 50 km/h and 100 km/h speed limit signs at each end of the town.

The work will be done between 9 am and 6 pm on Tuesday, 25 October and then between 6 am and 6 pm from Wednesday, 26 October, to Friday, 11 November. Lane closures and temporary speed restrictions will be in place. At times, short stops (10-15 minutes) may be required for highway traffic while heavy machinery is operating.

Resurfacing work will not be undertaken near Murchison Area School during school hours.

Once the road is resurfaced, temporary speed restrictions will remain in place until new road markings are installed. This includes upgraded zebra crossing markings.

This work is part of the Waka Kotahi annual summer maintenance programme in the Tasman region. Its timing may be affected by weather and any unforeseen circumstances. However, road crews will try to complete the work by 11 November.
