Regular users of Saddle Road between Ashhurst and Woodville are advised to plan ahead for an upcoming series of road closures starting, Sunday night (16 October).

The route will be closed to allow contractors to do essential maintenance. The work will be carried out over five nights, starting Sunday 16 October, and the road will be closed from 6pm to 6am.

The detour route is via the Pahiatua Track, between Aokautere and Pahiatua.

State highway traffic has been rerouted across Saddle Road since State Highway 3 through the Manawatū Gorge was closed in 2017 due to major damage. Significant upgrades have been carried out on the road to ensure it is suitable for the increased traffic volumes while construction of the new road is underway.

The upcoming overnight closures will allow line-markings and general road repairs and maintenance to be carried out. Contractors are also planning to lay new asphalt on the passing lane.

The full closures provide a safer environment for workers and allow the work to be completed with fewer delays to road users. This is the final planned closure for Saddle Road this year.

Access to all local properties and work sites will be available throughout these works. Road access will be available for emergency services.

Waka Kotahi understands the closure may inconvenience some road users and thanks everyone for their patience and understanding as crews carry out this essential work.
