Road users and residents who use State Highway 60 between Motueka and Appleby need to get ready for major maintenance work planned for later this month.
A detour will be in place while the route is closed to west-bound traffic (Richmond to Motueka) to allow extensive resurfacing work to be done. The route will remain open to those travelling from Motueka to Richmond. The partial closure will be in place from Sunday,16th October to Thursday, 20th October, between 7am and 5pm each day.
Andrew James, System Manager Top of the South, says the resurfacing work is essential for keeping the road up to standard and safe for road users.
“Even the best-designed roads wear out over time. In the same way your car needs a service, our state highways do as well. This work is all about keeping the road up to standard and safe for traffic.”
A detour route via the Moutere Highway, Main Road Lower Moutere, will be in place for west-bound road users (see maps below).
Mr James says while the work is underway, temporary speed restrictions will be in place.
“This, along with the detour, will mean travel times between Richmond and Motueka will be about six minutes longer. We apologise for the inconvenience, but regular maintenance work like this reduces the need for major repairs and the risk of even greater hassles for road users down the track.”
For your safety and the safety of our road crews, road users are asked to please drive carefully and stick to the temporary speed limits in place while this work is underway.
Partial closure details:
- State Highway 60 between Moutere Highway and Quayle Street/Wharf Road roundabout is closed to west-bound traffic (Motueka bound): between 7 am and 5 pm from Sunday 16th October to Thursday 20th October.
- State Highway 60 between Moutere Highway and Quayle Street/Wharf Road roundabout will remain open for east-bound traffic (Richmond bound), but there will be temporary speed restrictions.
