MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR-GENERAL
Death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Accession of His Majesty King Charles III
SPEAKER: Members, I have a message from Her Excellency the Governor-General. It reads as follows:
DAME CINDY KIRO, GOVERNOR GENERAL
Mr Speaker,
It is my sad duty to formally advise the House of Representatives that on 8 September 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second died at Balmoral Castle.
Her late Majesty is succeeded by His Royal Highness Prince Charles the Prince of Wales, who was proclaimed in the United Kingdom on 10 September 2022 and in New Zealand on 11 September 2022 as King Charles the Third.
Her Majesty devoted her whole life to the service of her subjects. As Queen of New Zealand, she retained an abiding interest in the changes and developments taking place in our nation, and great affection of its people. In return, she received our deepest respect and honour. Her grace, dedication, and strong sense of duty throughout her long reign will be well remembered.
I am sure the House of Representatives shares the sorrow of His Majesty and all his Realms at the death of His Majesty’s mother, the late Queen.
Tērā te tairere, te taimimiti, timu noa, timu noa.
Behold the tide at its lowest ebb.
The Rt Hon Dame Cindy KiroGovernor-General
Monday, 12 September 2022.
