Tonight’s (Monday 5 September) planned maintenance closure of State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill has been cancelled due to the MetService warning of potential snowfall. Weather permitting, the route will be open to all road users tonight.

However, drivers should take extra care when crossing the hill as freezing temperatures, rain, wind gusts, and potential snowfall are forecast.

Snow patrols will be on duty overnight to sweep snow off the road, and road users should be prepared to find themselves travelling slowly behind snow patrol vehicles at times.

The route may close at short notice to all traffic if conditions become severe.

The planned maintenance work will resume when weather conditions permit.
