Due to a slip earlier this morning, State Highway 59 is closed between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay.

Contractors are on site and working to clear the road. A geotechnical assessment is being carried out and the route is closed until further notice.

Road users should avoid the area and use State Highway 1, Transmission Gully, as an alternative route.

Wet weather continues to affect the wider Wellington region. Drivers are urged to drive to the conditions and take care on the roads.
