Overseas merchandise trade: July 2022 – Information release

Overseas merchandise trade statistics provide information on imports and exports of merchandise goods between New Zealand and other countries.

Key facts

This release refers to trade in goods only.

July 2022 monthly values are actual and compared with July 2021.

  • Goods exports rose $900 million (16 percent) to $6.7 billion.
  • Goods imports rose $1.6 billion (26 percent) to $7.8 billion.
  • The monthly trade balance was a deficit of $1.1 billion.
  • China led the monthly exports rise, up $214 million (13 percent).
  • Singapore led the monthly imports rise, up $344 million (227 percent).
  • There were rises for all top import partners in July 2022.
