Minor calculation error for used cars in the Household living-costs price indexes: June 2022 quarter

18 August 2022

An error occurred in our calculation of the clean car programme rebate/fee for used cars in the June 2022 quarter household living-costs price indexes (HLPI). This error has a small impact on two of the HLPI all groups series and some lower-level series. We will not be revising the HLPIs (as we are not revising the CPI because there is no impact on the headline CPI) or any other impacted series. It is not usual practice to revise the CPI because of the impact on customers who use it. We will show a catch-up movement in the September 2022 quarter HLPIs to ensure we are at the correct level for any impacted series.

We have published a table on Household living-costs price indexes: June 2022 quarter showing the corrected figures, for those that are interested in these series.
