Emergency works on a broken wastewater pipe on State Highway 58 have finished for the evening meaning the road has reopened.

However, contractors still need to carry out further work tomorrow. This will mean State Highway 58 will be closed again on Tuesday, 16 August, between James Cook Drive and the Postgate Drive roundabout.

The closure will take effect as of 9:30 am and is anticipated to last until 5:30 am Wednesday. However, depending on the nature of the repairs required, the closure could be longer.

Waka Kotahi will provide updates on its journeys page and social media channels as soon as new information is available.

Detours on local roads will be available. Road users must keep to the speed limits and take care in and around school zones.

Heavy vehicles are asked to use alternative routes via State Highways 1 and 2.

Waka Kotahi wants to thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding while this essential work is carried out.
