Waka Kotahi contractors are continuing to make excellent progress on repair work at the dropout site on State Highway 5 between Te Haroto and Tarawera, with work having progressed quicker than expected and contractors ahead of the expected programme.

Progress continues on work to repair the dropout on State Highway 5 between Te Haroto and Tarawera.

The next step requires service providers Chorus and Vodafone to relocate the fibre optic cable that is hanging above the site (visible in attached photos).

This will take some time, as the cable needs to be cut to be moved and the service providers will need to provide notice to their customers of the necessary outage, and make arrangements.

At the stage, Waka Kotahi contractors expect to be back on site to continue work from Monday 29 August, with the repair still on track to be completed in early October.

Until the work is complete, the road will remain down to a single lane, with traffic light stop/go in place.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while we undertake these important works.
