Eke Panuku chief executive David Rankin was awarded the Property Council New Zealand Member’s Laureate at its Property Industry Awards.

The lifetime membership award, which is bestowed once a year, recognises outstanding contribution to the property sector.

Property Council New Zealand chief executive Leonie Freeman acknowledged David’s work in Auckland over many years, where he has led urban regeneration projects both at Eke Panuku and in previous local government roles.

“He understands that creating amazing places where people can thrive takes a holistic approach where many different disciplines and view-points contribute to the bigger picture,” says Freeman.

“David is a fitting recipient, given the legacy he is building for all of Auckland.”

Developing relationships between significant private and public sector partners, David has been extensively involved in the transformation of some of the most loved parts of Auckland since the mid-1990s, including the Britomart precinct and the waterfront.

At Eke Panuku, David leads a strategic approach that sees the council partner with the private sector, government, iwi and the third sector to deliver a wide range of regenerative outcomes for Auckland.

Eke Panuku Board Chair Paul Majurey says “the accolade is a fitting acknowledgment of over 30 years of service to Aucklanders and Tāmaki Makaurau”.

“David is a life-long Aucklander and this award is recognition of leadership of Auckland Council’s urban regeneration agency, together with many years work supporting our city, and its communities to thrive and create amazing places. It is extremely well deserved.”
